Remember HOT.
Light:
skirts / sarong
shorts
cotton dresses
shirts
T shirts, that are easy to dry.
For women, the question over skirts versus shorts, in relation to offending local people:
Most temples insist that you wear a skirt and a tie around the waist, they provide the tie and usually but not always the skirt. If you wish to wear shorts make sure they are not too short and revealing and chuck a sarong into your daypack. In Bali they are not so fussy about covering your shoulders (shawl, light cardi or shirt with short of long sleeves), however we do.
Light long sleeve shirts, cardigans etc for the evening when it is slightly cool and you need to cover up because of mosquitoes. You can always wrap up in a your sarong.
Socks for mosquitoes at night
Jandals or some such comfortable footwear plus a good pair of walking sandals.
Swimsuit and one towel.
Sun hat, sun screen, sunglasses
Good DEET filled insect repellant
Torch – take batteries out during plane travel.
Daypack
Water bottle
A couple of good books if you are a reader and we can swop
Yoga mat and comfortable clothes for yoga
Medical first aid kit for the tropics
A good hard back book to take notes in.
A small box of pastels (or whatever you may choose) to draw with.
Something to sit on for meditation. e.g. a blow up cushion. You could use your yoga mat.
Good music
